Caen hill locks is a fantastic flight of 29 locks designed by engineer John Rennie as a solution to climbing the very steep hill in Devizes, on the last part of the 87 mile route of the Kennet and Avon canal to be completed. Unusually large side ponds store the water needed to operate the flight, which is a favourite spot with boaters and walkers. Visitors relax after climbing the locks in the Caen Hill Café, situated in a picturesque position at the top of the flight.
